# Hybrid Infrastructure Template

## When to Use

- When hybrid delivery requires infrastructure that supports both predictive and iterative work.
- When teams need shared integration architecture and adaptable environments.

## When NOT to Use

- To add parallel infrastructure simply because two delivery methods are named.
- Do not impose enterprise coordination or approval layers where team size and risk do not justify them. See [Maximum governance](../../../../../docs/principles/anti-patterns.md#maximum-governance).

## Pairs Well With

- [Hybrid Project Management Plan Template](../../../../../domains/delivery/project-lifecycle/02-planning/project-management-plan/hybrid-project-management-plan-template.md).
- [Infrastructure Assessment Template](../../../../../domains/measurement/industry-specializations/information-technology/infrastructure/infrastructure_assessment_template.md).

Selection context: Delivery domain; hybrid methodology; advanced complexity. Match the situations above to project phase, risk, team size, and industry using the [decision-engine context model](../../../../../meta/architecture-research/800-801-context-assessment-model.md).

## Executive Summary

This template provides a flexible infrastructure framework that combines traditional project management infrastructure with agile and emerging methodologies. Use this to establish project infrastructure that can adapt to changing project needs and organizational requirements.

## Infrastructure Philosophy

### Hybrid Approach Principles
- **Flexibility over rigidity** - Infrastructure adapts to project context
- **Value-driven architecture** - Infrastructure supports value delivery
- **Continuous improvement** - Infrastructure evolves based on lessons learned
- **Stakeholder-centric design** - Infrastructure serves stakeholder needs
- **Integration-focused** - Infrastructure bridges different methodologies

### Infrastructure Layers
1. **Foundation Layer** - Core systems and processes (stable)
2. **Methodology Layer** - Agile, traditional, or emerging methods (flexible)
3. **Adaptation Layer** - Context-specific customizations (dynamic)
4. **Integration Layer** - Cross-methodology coordination (responsive)

## Troubleshooting Common Issues

### Tool Integration Challenges
**Problem:** Tools don't integrate well between methodologies
**Solution:**
- Implement API-based integration or data export/import processes
- Use hub tools that support multiple methodologies
- Create manual bridge processes where automation isn't possible
- Focus on key integration points rather than complete automation

### Process Conflicts
**Problem:** Traditional and agile processes conflict
**Solution:**
- Define clear boundaries for each methodology application
- Create hybrid processes that satisfy both approaches
- Establish escalation paths for process conflicts
- Focus on outcomes rather than process purity

### Team Resistance
**Problem:** Teams resist hybrid infrastructure complexity
**Solution:**
- Provide comprehensive training and support
- Start with pilot teams and expand gradually
- Demonstrate value through quick wins
- Involve teams in infrastructure design decisions
- Simplify where possible while maintaining integration
